Ashlee's Story
Ashlee: Lucky #13 Submitted by proud Gram
Ashlee's story began on October 5, 1992. Her Mommy was 24 weeks into her pregnancy when she developed some bleeding. She was rushed by ambulance to Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY. She was treated and kept there for 4 days. After discharge, the doctor asked her to go across the street to his office where he would do a test. Upon examination, he readmitted her into the hospital immediately. She was experiencing placenta abrupto. On Tuesday, October 13th, they decided to do a C section. While talking with the anesthesiologist and doctor about the procedure...Ashlee decided to make an abrupt entrance into this world!!! She was rushed to NICU, and received immediate attention. Amid tubes, ventilator, monitors, etc., this became her home for the next 101 days. She weighed in at 1lb 4 oz., 12 1/2 inches long, and 15 weeks early! We were told her chances were very slim, as there were a multitude of problems...she might never walk, talk, see, have heart problems, breathing difficulties, etc.
Prayer groups were started all over Pennsyvania, New York and in many other areas of our country and the world. Word was passed around that a miracle was needed for this tiny baby!! The days passed into weeks, and then months. Each day brought a new miracle. The day the ventilator was removed was a major step in her life. The first time we were permitted to hold her...was Heaven. (It took weeks for this to happen.) Ashlee is now 9 years old, a healthy, happy, much loved treasure to her entire family. God answered our prayers and gave us a true miracle!!
(An added thought...Ashlee was born at 8:13pm on October 13th, the 13th member of our family unit. When she entered pre-school...she was the 13th member of her class. Entering 1st grade...her room number was 113!!! We feel this is her lucky number)
