Jordan Lybrook's Story
Jordan Bailey Lybrook
My miracle baby wasn't due til March 3,2002 but by mid-December 2001. I had developed pre-eclampsia and was put on bed-rest for the remainder of my pregnancy. On January 21,2002 I went for a doctor visit and was sent to the hospital for extended monitoring because during the non-stress test on my baby they couldn't register much of a heartbeat. At the hospital I started getting steroid shots to help develop her lungs and was sent home.
On Jan. 23, 2002, my mother took me back to the doctor for a follow up visit and then I was sent back to the hospital expecting my labor to be induced the next day. But the doctors decided to have me see a specialist that dealt with high-risk pregnancies and after doing her own ultrasound she determined that my placenta had stopped working and that they needed to induce me that evening. So about 6 p.m. on the 25th we started first with magnesium because my blood pressure was very elevated and they also tried two different drugs to get my labor started. Neither of which worked. After 23 1/2 hours with
no such luck we decided to do a c-section. My beautiful daughter was born January 26, 2002 at 5:50 p.m. weighing 3 lbs. 14 ozs. and 16 inches long.
Jordan was small enough that my husband could put her head in the palm of his hand and the bottom of her butt just barely came down his arm below his watch band. But she came out with a loud cry and she grabbed the surgical sheet that was on my stomach on her way out. Jordan never needed oxygen and she started eating that night. She was ready to be released from the hospital on Monday, Jan. 28, 2002 at 3lbs. 11ozs. but since my blood pressure was still elevated she stayed in the hospital until I was ready to go home on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002.
She is now 2 1/2 years old and weighs about 25 lbs. The only problems she has had has been needing tubes in her ears (Dec. 2002) and she was born with an umbilical and a peri-umbilical hernia both of which were fixed in Dec. 2003. She was born at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN and I was a patient of The Women's Clinic, also in Jackson, TN. Both places were absolutely wonderful to me and my daughter and we both received superior care.
