Kayla's Story
Kayla - A Miracle Baby
Kayla was a miracle to us before she ever came into the world. At 6 weeks, my doctor told me that I was going to miscarry and told me to go home and just rest. I returned to the doctor 5 days later to find out that they could hear a heart beat and with ultrasound could see that she was going to be okay. At 22 weeks I had a blood test that said she was positive for spina bifida and we had to decide if we wanted the pregnancy to continue.
Before we decided, we were sent to a bigger hospital to have a more accurate ultrasound done. They told us that they could not see anything wrong with her and told us to relax. At 30.6 weeks, we found out that our baby was not gaining any wait and was not growing. They put me in the hospital, hooked me up to monitors and prepared me for what may happen. On the morning of the beginning of my 32nd week, the ultrasound showed no lung activity and an emergency c-section was ordered.
About 2 hours later our daughter can into this world screaming and hollering and beautiful. She weighed 1lb. 15oz. and was 14 inches long. She was perfectly formed from head to toe and was breathing on her own from the moment she came out. She had to stay in the NICU for 7 weeks because of her size. She weighed 4lb. 6oz. when we bought her home. She had no problems in the hospital and is growing like a weed now that she is home. She did have a groin hernia that was repaired at 6 months but other than that, she is doing great. She is now 16 months old, weighs 18.6lbs and is 29inches long. The hospital where she was born called her a miracle and had her picture taken for their walls by a professional. They are in four locations and they are huge(30x40). She is our gift from God.
