Our
story is quite long, but I will give the shortened version. 17 weeks
into my pregnancy I was told that our baby boy would not live past birth.
He was diagnosed as having no cerebellum. After a lot of tears and
prayer one month later at another ultrasound the specialist found his
cerebellum, but also found a gap in his
neurotube and diagnosed him with a form of Spina Bifida called
Myelomeningocele. He would live, but he would have to have surgery as soon as he was born to
repair and close the opening in his spine. Isaac was born only 3
weeks early and weighed a whopping 8lbs and 2 ounces. This was
miracle in itself and he would need the extra weight to sustain his
surgeries. He was transported to St. Louis Children’s Hospital NICU where he would have 2 surgeries one to close his back and another 2
days later to place a shunt in his brain to drain the fluid. Even
though he was still on oxygen we where able to come home from the NICU
after only 4 weeks. Now, 10 months and 4 surgeries later he is doing
great. We still have hurdles to cross, but we wouldn’t want Isaac
any other way, he has changed our lives so much for the better and he is
our miracle baby!
