After 3 years of trying to conceive a baby, my husband and I found out
that we were going to have TWINS! Needless to say, we were very
excited. I went into pre-term labor and was put in the hospital at
26 weeks. They ended up being born at 27 weeks gestation, weighing 2
lbs. 1 oz. and 2 lbs. 3 oz. They were immediately placed on the
ventilator. Katie came off the ventilator in 2 days, but she had a
hard time getting her oxygen level up, so she remained on oxygen for
several weeks. Keaton stayed on the ventilator for 10 days and then
they told us he had a defect with his heart and would probably not make it
through the weekend. I went in to visit with him on Monday morning
and before I got there the doctor was sitting at a table and looked at me
and said "You haven't heard have you?" The first thing
that went through my mind was that he didn't make it, but as I looked in
the room where his incubator was, he was laying there kicking and
squirming and he didn't have the ventilator, his feeding tube or anything.
I asked who took it off and the doctors reply was "he did it
himself." In amazement I said he isn't strong enough to do that
and he looked at me and said "I know that, and you know that!"
He informed me that he would most likely have to go back on the ventilator
so not to get too excited. He never did go back on it and he
beat his sister home by 4 days!!! They are both little miracle babies, but
he is beyond a miracle baby to me. God worked in his life at such a
young age, and has continued to do so to this day! They just turned
4 and are doing great. He has had 4 minor surgeries, but you would
never know they were born 13 weeks early. Thanks be to God!!
