My son Matthew was born
at approximately. 26 weeks gestation. We had our first ultrasound 4 days
prior to his arrival and they told me there I had little amniotic
fluid. Then they sent me to a specialist who told me the problems
could be as much as clubbed feet, lung problems, and other
multitudes of problems. They tried to infuse my womb with saline with
no luck. When he was born at 2 pounds 9.4 ounces, there were no
problems except his kidneys did not function. We found out that he
has bilateral PKD and would need dialysis immediately. They were not
expecting him to live overnight. He
has survived 9 surgeries and has endured 3 cases of peritonitis and
an ongoing g-tube infection. He
finally came home just shy of 6 months. He is now a fairly normal and
healthy 13 pound 7 1/2 month old. (except still on dialysis) He will
be getting his daddy's kidney when he reaches 22 pounds.
